Info: Un regalo natalizio inaspettato
per i fans, ormai moltissimi, che ancora dovevano riprendersi dall’incredibile
successo del precedente Music Box. Ovviamente regna l’atmosfera natalizia,
ma imponente è anche quella gospel,
L’album, anche a livello di arrangiamenti, è veramente un capolavoro. Contiene
varie canzoni natalizie più o meno vecchie, e molte canzoni tradizionali,
quest’ultime sono riviste in chiave moderna, senza però togliere nulla al
loro “classic sound”, insomma ''Merry Christmas" è sicuramente il cd perfetto
con cui trascorrere la Vigilia e da ascoltare al risveglio il giorno di Natale,
nonché per tutta la durata delle tanto amate vacanze natalizie! Un album che
non invecchierà mai e che puntualmente ogni anno si piazza nei posti più alti
della classifica di catalogo USA, di sicuro una strenna natalizia perfetta!!!
L’album contiene tre inediti, scritti dalla stessa Mariah con l’aiuto di Walter
Afanasieff, tra cui la stupenda "All I Want For Christmas Is You"
La canzone è accompagnata da un video carinissimo e
divertentissimo, in cui Mariah ripropone il look “Santa Claus” della copertina
e in cui gioca sulla neve con Jack, Princess e delle renne, nonché Babbo Natale
in persona ossia Tommy Mottola. Nel video, in un fotogramma vedrete anche
la mamma, Patricia! L’altro inedito è “Miss You Most (At Christmas Time)”,
accompagnato da un video che descrive benissimo l’atmosfera triste e malinconica
della canzone. Infine “Jesus Born On This Day” canzone che francamente potrebbe
essere benissimo inserita tra i classici di Natale, se non aveste letto che
era scritta da Mariah e Walter, avreste detto che non era una canzone tradizionale?!
Da notare l’ultima traccia, “God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman” in cui possiamo
apprezzare tutta la bellezza della splendida voce di Mariah, in un brano completamente
a cappella che è sicuramente una delle perle dell’album. Mariah sul gospel
: “Quando canto il gospel, sembra che tutto sia ok. Non mi preoccupo di come
canterò il prossimo verso, perché mi lascio completamente andare. Le voci
si connettono con la musica in un’esperienza spirituale ed edificante, e provo
sensazioni molto profonde.”
Curiosità: di “Joy To The World” uscì una speciale edizione tutta natalizia
in vinile rosso contenente dei fantastici remixes di David Morales.
