Info:L’album di
debutto di Mariah, alla sua uscita lei era appena ventenne e aveva firmato
un contratto prestigioso con la Sony, allora CBS Records. Nell’album compaiono
personaggi importanti del mondo musicale in veste di produttori e autori,
artisti come Narada Michael Walden, Walter Afanasieff, Ric Wake e il meno
famoso, ma importantissimo Ben Margulies, con cui Mariah realizzò il suo primo
demo tape, ma che dopo il primo album scomparve dalla lista dei collaboratori.
Nel primo album Mariah compare anche come co-autrice di tutti i testi, dimostrando
già allora di avere non solo una voce stupenda, ma anche un incredibile talento
come autrice. Questo album si rivelò un grande successo, arrivando al #1 della
classifica USA, e stazionando nelle posizioni più alte per molte settimane.
Il primo singolo estratto, “Vision Of Love”, uscì nel Maggio del ’90 e in
poco tempo arrivò al #1 della chart dei singoli, seguito poi dagli altri tre
singoli, che ebbero la stessa fortunata sorte: Love Takes Time, Someday e
I Don’t Wanna Cry. C’è una canzone che non uscì come singolo, ma che rimane
uno dei capolavori di Mariah, Vanishing, che tuttora è una delle canzoni preferite
dall’artista stessa.
Curiosità:
Ä Love Takes Time fu aggiunto solo alla fine
quando il disco era pronto per la stampa e la distribuzione, ma i produttori
esecutivi dopo averla sentita insistettero per inserire la canzone nell’album
di debutto, sebbene Mariah l’avesse scritta pensando già al prossimo.
Ä La produzione dell'album
"Mariah Carey" cominciò nel 1988, subito dopo che Mariah firmò
il contratto con la CBS/Columbia records.
Ä Quattro canzoni di
questo album(Alone In Love, Someday, All In Your Mind, and Prisoner) facevano
parte del primissimo demo di Mariah.
Ä Mariah e Ben Margulies scrissero una dozzina
di canzoni per quest'album,ma soltanto sette furono inserite.
